What is a credit card security code?

The Card Security Code is a group of 3 digits located on the back of Cisa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards. It is usually to the right of the signature strip.

On American Express cards, the Card Security Code is a printed (NOT embossed) group of four digits on the frount towards the right.
